my testing on 3D geometry in Flash

This is the first Flash I write after studying those 3D for Flash for a week.

picture tube's world

When the moment I making this video was a very difficult time and everything seemed crashing on me. I was struggling between to listen to my own voice or voices from traditional thought, Christianity teaching and peopleî–¸ expectation which were noisy and imposed me great pressure. Therefore I wanted to stay alone in a cave to do anything I wanted. The cave could protect me and prevented from hurting by the external pressure and kept a distance from the outside environment. But still, I was curious about the outside world but scared about the uncertainty.

On the way of struggling, the philosophy by Deleuze (time image) - to unfold narrative, to breakdown the logical relationship with cause and effect and to open up and free object totally from their functions and contextual relations, triggered my inner voice being getting louder. As a result, I could feel that I was changing and transforming everyday. But the uncertainty still threatened me and I still needed the cave to protect me.

To represent myself through this installation, the picture tube that showing the video visualized those images in my heart and my mind. The outside world and my inner world came in and out which affect my psychological world according to time. To critise the tradition thought, the cause and effect was not necessarily to be logical and in sequence. Therefore, I splitted the video into segments and incomplete movement and rearranged and repeated them to unfold the narrative. It was being open to perceive individually.

The tube is too precious and delicate that protection is needed from being damaged and let the electronic signal to transform to visaul signal succesfully and safely. The inside is the most important part of the insallation that only transparent enclosure can represent its significant. It looks like a free standing picture tube.

work by Marina Abramovic

This few words impress me :

"...So it's not that I'm transforming them (the viewer) into me, it's just that they take what they need for their own life to enlarge awareness."
by Marina Abramovic

This was an interview by Mary Jane Jacob who talked about Marina's work (The House with the Ocean View) transformed the viewer, herself and the work itself.

I appreciate her attitude in making art. And I agreed with what she said about the importancy to know our function deep inside in ourself and what really we suppose to do in our life.

max? pd? ???

I started to try to use max and pure data for my thesis project last week. I drew a patch and looked at the reference and examples that from pure data external. Thanks for someone who made this wonderful software. Nearly every external that relate to pure data are contained inside. The help is really helpful and functional. Many examples and references are categorised systematically.

Since I was afraid that some problems will come up, I chose to use max. I tried to convert the patch to max. Before that, i needed to find a suitable external for max as well. I used Gem and Pmpd (physical modelling pure data) in pd and luckily, i found Gem for max and pmpd for max. Everything seemed smooth and i could convert my patch to max. But one thing i was not satified, which was the visual 3D effect . The images were in 3D shape but I didn't like this kind of visual experience to display 3D.

Therefore, i changed my mind again. haha.. I use Flash. Flash is a software for 2D. If i made my work in 3D, I need to study more about trigonmetry. Since only Flash can "satisfy" the need of my eyes, I tried to learn it. Thanks that there are cool web site that teach 3D in flash. It was really cool. http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/3dindex.htm
